This is the personal portfolio of Makle Richards (maklerichards.com), based in Colorado, USA. This page explains, in plain language, what information the site collects about visitors, why it's collected, and who it's shared with.

Contact form

If you use the contact form, you choose what to send. It collects your name, email address, the project type you select, and your message. Submissions are processed and stored by Netlify Forms (part of my hosting provider, Netlify) so I can read and reply to them. The form also has a hidden anti-spam field that isn't used to identify you. I use the details you send only to respond to your inquiry — I don't sell them or use them for marketing. When the form is submitted, the site also records an anonymous "form submitted" event that contains no personal details; if you've allowed the Analytics or Advertising categories, that event may be passed to those tools so I can measure how well the site works.

Analytics — Google Analytics 4

The site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4), loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how people find and use it. GA4 collects information such as your device, browser, and operating system; your approximate location (usually city or region level, derived from your IP address); the pages you view; and how you move through and interact with the site. I use this in aggregate to improve the site. This data is collected and processed by Google.

Advertising — Meta pixel

To measure whether my advertising works and to reach relevant audiences, the site uses the Meta pixel. It can record that you visited the site or took certain actions, and lets me measure ad performance and build audiences for ads on Meta's platforms (Facebook and Instagram). This currently includes the Meta pixel (Meta Platforms, Inc.).

Session recording — Microsoft Clarity

The site uses Microsoft Clarity, a session-replay and heatmap tool. This is different from the aggregate analytics above: Clarity can record your individual session — including mouse movement, clicks, scrolling, and how you interact with pages — and replays it so I can see how the site is actually used and where people get stuck. Clarity is set to mask text you type into form fields and other sensitive inputs by default, so what you enter into the contact form should not appear in recordings. This is behavioral, session-level recording, not just totals and counts. Clarity uses first- and third-party cookies and similar technologies to capture this data, and recordings and heatmaps are processed and stored by Microsoft. Microsoft also uses the data it collects through Clarity for its own purposes — including improving and marketing Microsoft's products and services, and for fraud prevention and security — as described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement. By using this site with session recording enabled, you agree that the site and Microsoft can collect and use this data.

Server logs

Like most websites, the server automatically records standard technical information when you visit — such as your IP address, the pages requested, timestamps, the referring page, and basic device and browser details. My hosting provider, Netlify, handles this as part of serving and protecting the site. I use it for security, troubleshooting, and keeping the site running. The site is served over HTTPS, and if you discover a security issue, please report it through the contact form so it can be addressed.

Embedded third-party content

To display the site, a few resources load from third parties. Fonts load from Google Fonts (Google's servers), which can expose your IP address and browser details to Google. Images are optimized and delivered through the Netlify Image CDN. These are used so the site looks and works as intended.

Who receives your data

I don't sell your personal data. The third parties that may receive or process visitor data, along with their privacy policies, are:

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage and tracking pixels) fall into two groups on this site:

  • Strictly necessary — needed for the site and contact form to work. These are always active and aren't used for tracking.
  • Optional — Analytics (Google Analytics 4), Advertising (Meta pixel), and Session recording (Microsoft Clarity). These are controlled by your consent.

The optional tools are managed through a cookie banner. You can accept all, keep only what's essential, or turn individual categories on and off. You can change your choice at any time using the Manage cookie preferences button below.

How long data is kept

How long information is retained depends on the tool:

  • Contact form — submissions stay in Netlify Forms until I no longer need them; I review and delete old inquiries periodically.
  • Google Analytics 4 — event- and user-level data is retained for the period set in my Analytics configuration (up to 14 months); aggregated, de-identified reporting may be kept longer by Google.
  • Microsoft Clarity — session recordings are retained for about 30 days, and heatmap and aggregated click data for about 13 months, per Microsoft's data-retention policy.
  • Server logs — kept by Netlify for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.

If you are in the EU or UK

Laws including the GDPR, UK GDPR, and ePrivacy rules generally require consent before non-essential cookies and trackers are placed on your device. If you visit from the EU or UK, the optional tools above are off by default and load only after you opt in through the cookie banner. Visitors elsewhere have these tools on by default and can turn them off at any time. You can withdraw or change your consent whenever you like using the Manage cookie preferences button below, and you also have rights over your personal data, including to access, correct, or delete it, and to object to certain uses (see "Your choices and rights" below).

If you are in the United States

Some U.S. state privacy laws — such as California's CCPA/CPRA, and similar laws in Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other states — give you the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information and of targeted advertising. I don't sell your personal information for money. However, advertising and session-recording tools like the Meta pixel and Microsoft Clarity can count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under these laws. You can opt out at any time — treated the same as a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" request — by turning off the Advertising and Session recording categories using the Manage cookie preferences button below.

Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal data I hold about you, or ask me to correct or delete it.
  • Change or withdraw your cookie consent at any time using the Manage cookie preferences button below.
  • Opt out of analytics and advertising tracking through your browser settings or the third-party tools listed above.

To make a request about your data, contact me through the contact form on this site. I'll respond as soon as I reasonably can. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law.
